Heya!
My name is Juli Burdette. I’m the creator and teacher of VOCA.
Yay for finding your way here! That shows you’re probably already on the path of self expression & wanting to grow.
:: A little about me ::
I’ve been singing my whole life. My voice has been my best friend, therapist, lover and tell-all. It’s the lifeblood thru which I process feelings & serve the world and how I’ve stayed (somewhat) sane in it. I was shown in a near-death experience many years ago that my voice is one of the main reasons I’m here.
I majored in vocal performance in college though it wasn’t until I became a yoga teacher and became acquainted with energy anatomy that I truly utilized my voice as a devotional channel for prayer, pleasure, pain & play through chant, initially.
When I studied Yoga of the Voice with Silvia Nikkach, many of those foundational practices lead to a deeper, spirit-led experience of my sound within rather than a performance for others. Seeds were planted.
Since then, daily devotion, consistent study of the voice & living a life of music have helped me experience deep grief & joy alike. I’ve been holding group and individual sound healing sessions since 2011, had a thriving kirtan band, have held 13 years of song circles, and gratefully see 1:1 VOCA clients. Every experience helps me grow closer to the companion that is my soul song.
My prayer is that every student of VOCA comes into acceptance and celebration of their own unique voice. Connecting to your multi-faceted sound can give you a lifetime of authentic expression, play and purpose.
May this practice serve as an inner compass as well as vehicle for collective healing & wholeness.
